Your Kilimanjaro journey begins at the Machame Gate. You’ll trek approximately 12 kilometers on this day, ascending through the lush rainforest of Kilimanjaro. Your first campsite is Machame Camp, where you’ll spend your first night.
On the second day, you’ll continue your ascent through the forest and eventually into the moorland zone. You’ll trek approximately 8 kilometers to reach Shira Camp, which is situated at a higher altitude.
This day’s trek covers approximately 10 kilometers. You’ll pass through the Shira Plateau and descend to Barranco Camp, which is known for its breathtaking views and unique rock formations, including the Barranco Wall.
Your trek continues from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp, covering around 6 kilometers. This involves ascending the Barranco Wall and then descending into the Karanga Valley before reaching your campsite.
On this day, you’ll trek approximately 4 kilometers from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp, which serves as the base camp for your summit attempt. This is a shorter day of trekking to allow for rest and preparation for the summit.
This is a challenging day as you ascend from Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. The total distance covered is approximately 13 kilometers. After reaching the summit and witnessing the sunrise, you’ll begin your descent to Mweka Camp for the night.
The final day involves descending from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. This is the last leg of your Kilimanjaro adventure, covering approximately 10 kilometers. At the gate, you’ll complete the necessary formalities, marking the end of your trek.
