Your Kilimanjaro journey begins at the Lemosho Gate. You’ll trek approximately 5 kilometers through the lush rainforest of Kilimanjaro to reach Mti Mkubwa (meaning “big tree” in Swahili) where you’ll spend your first night.
On the second day, you’ll continue your ascent through the forest, eventually entering the moorland zone. The day’s trek covers around 9 kilometers, and you’ll arrive at Shira One camp for your overnight stay.
You’ll trek approximately 9 kilometers from Shira One to Shira Two. This section offers stunning views of the Shira Plateau, which is a unique and scenic feature of the Lemosho Route.
On this day, you’ll hike about 10 kilometers, and the route takes you to Lava Tower, a prominent volcanic formation. Afterward, you’ll descend to Barranco Camp, which sits at a lower elevation, for your overnight stay.
Your trek continues from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp, covering approximately 6 kilometers. This day involves some steep and challenging sections as you make your way up the Barranco Wall and then descend into the Karanga Valley.
This is a demanding day as you trek from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp, which is the base camp for your summit attempt. The distance covered is around 13 kilometers. After a short rest at Barafu, you’ll begin your final ascent to the summit. Following your successful summit, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp for the night.
The final day of your trek involves descending from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, covering approximately 10 kilometers. At the gate, you’ll complete the necessary formalities, and this marks the end of your Kilimanjaro adventure.
